しいて【強いて】

by force; forcibly.

●強いて弁護してくれとは言わない. I'm not forcing you to defend me.

・今の場合強いて来てくれとも言いかねた. Under the circumstances I could not press him to come.

・横浜まで行ってもらいたいのだが強いてとは言わない. I'd like you to go to Yokohama, but I'm not forcing you.

・君がいやなら強いてそうする必要もないと思う. If you don't want to then I don't think you need to force yourself to do that.

・強いて帰ると言うなら止めはしない. If you insist on going home, I will not stop you.

・甲乙つけがたいが, 強いて言えばこの方が少しましだ. There is little to choose between the two, but if a ranking has to be made, this here is a shade better.

・その色を言い表すのは難しいが, 強いて言えばやや青緑がかった灰色とでも. It's hard to describe the color, but if I had to I'd say it's something like a gray with a bluish-green tinge.

・リンゴもミカンも大好きだけど, 強いて比較すればミカンのほうが手でむけるからいいかな. I love both apples and mandarins, but if I had to compare the two I'd say mandarins are better because you can peel them without a knife.
